My favorite brunch place in Ft. Worth is Bird Cafe. *Amazing* food and it has a bit of a New Orleans feel. If you’re ever in town, it’s a must-do! They have a dish called “The Mother and Child Reunion”. <I know!> Sick joke but amazing dish. Fried chicken and a poached egg over chili cheese grits with a spoonful of bacon gravy. This is my healthy spin on that.

Jen’s Poblano, Potato, and Mushroom Breakfast Tacos

Delicious, easy, filling, hand-held, happiness-inducing little pockets of joy. I adore breakfast tacos. They actually freeze pretty well, so you can skip the avocado, fold them up burrito-style, pop them in a vacuum sealed bag, and take them camping, just reheating in a little skillet over the fire. Skip the bacon if you want a vegetarian version. Hope you love them!

61TiTCS8aGL._SX442_BO1,204,203,200_I wanted to share with you one of my favorite Mexican cookbooks, Casa Marcela: Recipes and Food Stories of My Life in the Californias. It has a special place in my heart because she demystified tamales for me. I hadn’t even realized sweet tamales were a thing, and then I saw her pineapple tamales. The whole book is filled with special dishes. Tons of produce. Fresh seafood. Oozy cheese. Yeah, I love it. I’ll get to the review afterwards, so you can get a glimpse of what it offers, but first I wanted to share her recipe for Creamy Beer Shrimp–Stuffed Poblano Chiles with you. Shrimp sautéed with garlic and arbol chiles, then simmered in dark lager and heavy cream, with some cheese stirred in at the end.
