Jen’s Hibachi Fried Rice

I had a little leftover brown rice from making sushi last night, so I thought I’d turn it into breakfast. 😀 Yeah, I know – A hibachi refers to the actual heating device, and I am using it to refer to the vegetables typically served at a hibachi restaurant. Hopefully, you’ll forgive that after you taste this!

Jen’s Eggs in Purgatory

Eggs in Purgatory. I was first introduced to this dish watching Nigella Lawson. She talked about working as cleaning staff in a hotel in Italy to fund her travels. She waxed on about the sunshine and the views, then in classic Nigella style, switched gears from this idyllic imagery to talking about the best hangover breakfast dish with a smile. <snort> That woman has made me cough on more coffee! It is an amazing, effortless dish, and I hope you love my take on it.

Jen’s Mother and Child Reunion

My favorite brunch place in Ft. Worth is Bird Cafe. *Amazing* food and it has a bit of a New Orleans feel. If you’re ever in town, it’s a must-do! They have a dish called “The Mother and Child Reunion”. <I know!> Sick joke but amazing dish. Fried chicken and a poached egg over chili cheese grits with a spoonful of bacon gravy. This is my healthy spin on that.

Jen’s Southwestern Crustless Quiche

It’s my shopping day, so I popped into the fridge to see what veggies I needed to use up. I found 4 ears of grilled corn and ½ a pound of baby spinach. Awesome! A Southwestern crustless quiche, it is!

Jen’s Steak and Eggs with an Herb Sauce and Tomatoes

My herb sauce is similar to chimichurri, but I use about ¼ of the oil. I like to keep it about the fresh herbs. Hope you love it!

Jen’s Avocado Deviled Eggs

I love deviled eggs. They’re the perfect appetizer, a fabulous breakfast, the best thing you can find in the fridge post-workout, cheap party fare, darn delicious, and they’re flippin’ cute! I could write poems to those little guys all day!

Real Deal Holyfield Brisket Breakfast Tacos recipe and cookbook review: The Brisket Chronicles by Steven Raichlen

#StevenRaichlen @StevenRaichlen #WorkmanPub @WorkmanPub #BrisketChronicles @BrisketChronicles #HorizonSmokers @HorizonSmokers

Steven Raichlen’s got a new book coming out tomorrow (April 30th), The Brisket Chronicles, and it is wonderful! I’m in love with this book and wish I’d gone with the hardcover already, as it is sure to be oh-so-very well used. He’s got everything in here from barbecue brisket favorites to his family’s holiday braised briskets and even brisket dessert. Like his other books, this has that same welcoming tone and desire to teach you how to get everything just right. His instructions are casual, yet really thorough. If you want to become the brisket master, he’ll help get you there. I was delighted to see that Steven smokes on the exact same smoker that I do, a Horizon RD Marshal that I lovingly refer to as Billy Bob. Spoiler alert – No, he never tells us what he’s named his smoker.

A huge thanks to Workman Publishing for letting me share the recipe for Real Deal Holyfield Brisket Breakfast Tacos with you! I’ll tell you all about the rest of the book afterwards!

Spanish Tortilla/Tortilla Española recipe and cookbook review: Tapas and other Spanish plates to share

@RylandPetersAndSmall @RylandPeters #RylandPetersAndSmall #RylandPeters #tapas

A million years ago, or 23 to be slightly more accurate, my husband and I traveled around Spain, Portugal, and Morocco on our honeymoon. The trip was beyond amazing! The Prado Museum and Plaza Major in Madrid were fabulous. The salt-crusted fish and possibly skinny dipping on the coast in Marbella were delicious. And in Seville, we fell desperately in love with the flamenco shows and Maria Luisa Park. And the tapas and thick hot chocolate. Tapas everywhere. It’s a garlic-lover’s dream.
